Unfolding
This unconventional score won FearNoMusic’s locally sourced sounds competition. It featured a string quartet using Ableton to record loops live during the concert. I’ve long been obsessed with the notion of chance and structure and how they interrelate. How can I create repeatable structures purely from chance? How can I create music that is different every time it is played? Composing is about choices. What kind of choices can I limit myself with, but still give players autonomy and agency. In my mind, the ambient structure is somewhat reminiscent of wind chimes.
